PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — South Dakota legislators are looking for ways to provide property tax relief this year, and in some cases, they’re looking for eligible recipients to receive refunds. The House Taxation committee approved a bill Tuesday morning to increase property tax refunds to low income elderly and disabled people. Brandi Eckert of the Department of Revenue says the department has struggled to reach those who are eligible, with only about a thousand applicants last year. The property tax refund program has been on the books for 50 years. In other action, the same committee approved a bill to create a Homeowner Property Tax Relief Fund.
