PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — South Dakota healthcare providers will be covered by new moral conscience protections under a bill passed by a South Dakota legislative committee Thursday morning. Sponsor, Representative Leslie Heinemann of Flandreau, says medical professionals should not be forced to participate in providing services that violate their conscience. Healthcare companies opposed the measure, saying it places burdens on their operations. The bill was approved in committee and sent to the full House floor for consideration.
