Day 38 of the Federal Government shutdown and Senator John Thune is going to take a slightly different approach to ending the stalemate today. He’ll amend the continuing resolution passed in September by the House, adding long-term appropriations bills and extending government funding beyond November 21st. He hopes that will peel off enough Democrats to support it and pass the measure to re-open government operations. A federal judge has ordered payment of November SNAP nutrition benefits to be paid out of a contingency fund approved by lawmakers, but Congressman Dusty Johnson says that fund won’t go very far. The Senate is expected to vote on reopening the government later today.
