There has been an increase in online advertisements offering slot machines for sale by individuals. This is a problem because South Dakota Law prohibits the private ownership or possession of slot machines. An unlicensed slot machine is considered illegal contraband and is a class 1 misdemeanor. Seven of these machines that were listed for sale were seized and ordered to be destroyed. The South Dakota Gaming Commission met on September 16, 2025, and are warning the public not to buy these machines.
