WASHINGTON, DC (KELO.com) — They’ve been fighting to maintain their property rights for four years. Now, Carbon Capture pipeline opponents say the battle has taken a new turn. Their focus is a bill introduced by Congressman Dusty Johnson. The Congressman says it only affects Clean Water projects, pointing to the findings of the non-partisan Congressional Research Service, which says the bill has nothing to do with C02 pipelines. Carbon pipeline opponents like Spink County farmer Ed Fischbach disagree, and say their research on the bill shows it also includes provisions to make way for the C02 lines.
Fischbach says members of the anti-pipeline coalition don’t appreciate being dictated to concerning their private property, adding they have more confidence in local control and believe property rights are more important than having the federal government or a private company telling them what they need to do with their land. Congressman Johnson’s office says the bill has no affect on private property. Fischbach says opponents won’t rest until they change or kill the bill sponsored by Congressman Johnson.
