SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Governor Larry Rhoden has unveiled a multi-pronged effort to rein in drug dealers, parole absconders and illegal aliens. A pilot program in Sioux Falls – Operation Prairie Thunder – involves increased cooperation between state, local and federal law enforcement, the National Guard, the state Department of Corrections and Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The move was well-received by law enforcement, but not by South Dakota Democratic leaders. They say it isn’t about safety…but it’s about fear and call it a political stunt. Democratic leaders of both houses of the Legislature are speaking against the effort, saying it adds to existing concerns about the way ICE is currently operating.
