Pierre, SD (KELO.com) — It isn’t often South Dakota makes hockey history, but Pierre’s Carter Sanderson did this weekend. He became the first South Dakota player to be drafted into the NHL. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Sanderson in the sixth round. He helped the Muskegon Lumberjacks win the USHL’s Clark Cup this year. Sanderson is headed to play at the University of North Dakota this time next year.
