SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Cameras, cameras everywhere, and we’re about to have more. The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s department will be deploying license plate reader cameras in over half a dozen locations. Captain Joe Bosman informed the county commission yesterday that the Sheriff’s Department is entering into an agreement with Flock Safety to install the cameras. He says it’s part of the same system being used by police departments in Sioux Falls, Madison and Sioux City. The cameras will not be used to catch traffic violations like speeding, but can help in recovering stolen vehicles, Amber Alerts, fugitives on the run and other similar situations. Captain Bosman says no new personnel will be needed to operate the system.
