SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Heavy vehicles are hard on road conditions, and in Minnehaha County, they’ll bear the brunt of a higher wheel tax. County Commissioners unanimously approved an increase in the county wheel tax for vehicles weighing more than six-thousand pounds. The rate goes from four dollars per wheel up to five dollars, with a maximum tax of 60-dollars per vehicle. Commission Chair Dean Karsky says the move makes sense.
Owners of vehicles under six-thousand pounds won’t see any increase. This is the first increase in the county’s wheel tax in 30 years.
