WASHINGTON, DC (KELO.com) — South Dakota leaders are weighing in as tensions rise in the Middle East. After Israel’s preemptive strikes on Iran, Iran has fired back with missile attacks on several cities over the weekend. Nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran are now off the table. Senate Majority Leader and South Dakota Senator John Thune says President Trump would be willing to lead peace talks and warned Iran not to target Americans. He says Israel is acting in self-defense. South Dakota Rabbi Mendel Alperowitz called Israel’s strikes a miracle and said taking early action saves lives, even if it’s not always politically popular. Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Iraq has issued an alert as concerns grow about American safety in the region. Thune responded to the threat, warning that Iran should be prepared for all of America’s might to descend upon them if they go after and target Americans or American bases.
