SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Federal budget cuts and a hiring freeze are being felt in national weather service offices in South Dakota. South Dakota News Watch reports the Weather forecast Office in Sioux Falls is among the hardest hit, with a job vacancy rate of nearly 42-percent. State Climatologist Laura Edwards says one area of concern is coordination between forecast offices and local emergency coordinators when there are risks of severe weather.
