PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — The Project Prison Reset Task Force is back at work in Pierre today, looking for solutions to overcrowding and poor conditions in the men’s prison system. They’re hearing recommendations from a consulting firm that says the state’s prison needs may be double what officials have been considering, totaling two-billion dollars. Minnehaha County Sheriff Mike Milstead is on the task force. He says he doesn’t know of anyone who wants to spend two-billion dollars on the prison system.
Committee members also heard more input today from local communities that are near one of the proposed sites under consideration for a new men’s prison. The Task Force meets one more time to finalize recommendations for a special session of the state legislature scheduled for next month.
