SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Nothing says summer like a bunch of traffic cones, roadblocks and detours. That being the case, welcome to summer! The Cliff Avenue project is about to get serious in terms of its impact on traffic flow. Cliff Avenue will be closed to traffic near the I-229 interchange project starting Wednesday. The posted detour instructions will take motorists to Minnesota Avenue, but from the sound of things, that won’t be any picnic. The detour is expected to divert upwards of 12-thousand vehicles per day to Minnesota Avenue, bumping its daily traffic count into the 30,000 to 35,000 vehicle range. This promises to be a real “character-builder” for those who use these thoroughfares on their daily commute. Cliff Avenue will remain closed until sometime in August. The entire Cliff Avenue/I-229 project won’t be complete until 2027.
