ARIZONA BORDER (KELO.com) — Republican Attorneys General gathered at the southern border Wednesday, to work on ways to stop illegal immigrants and drugs from coming into the U-S. South Dakota’s Marty Jackley was among them. Nearly all of them expressed thanks for improved border security under the Trump Administration. Jackley also announced a new effort to allow state Division of Criminal Investigation officers to help federal agents with immigration enforcement.
The program allowing the cooperative efforts between state, local and federal authorities was adopted in 1996. Meanwhile, Governor Larry Rhoden also just returned from the southern border. He also wants to use that same program to allow Highway Patrol officers to aid ICE agents with immigration enforcement. The Governor met Tuesday with the South Dakota National Guard’s 109th Engineer Battalion in Eagle Pass, Texas, observing their work to secure the border.
Governor Rhoden also toured the Shelby Park area, where up to 4-thousand aliens crossed the border illegally every day in 2023.
