SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — South Dakota is leading the nation with a model of mental health care that reaches to remote areas that don’t have care facilities. Avel eCare’s Crisis Care telemedicine program is being used in nine states to provide secure video connections to behavioral health professionals. Avel’s Vice President and General Manager Brian Erickson says the result is fewer jail bookings, fewer E-R transports, and better outcomes for people in crisis.
Erickson says the Crisis Care program helps most patients avoid involuntary in-patient care, receiving remote treatment at home instead.
