SPRINGFIELD, SD (KELO.com) — They don’t know where, but South Dakota’s Project Prison Reset Task Force agrees – the state needs new prison facilities. Attorney General Marty Jackley told fellow task force members that inaction is not an option.
A consultant’s report on prison needs is expected in May. House Speaker Jon Hansen wanted the committee to wait until receiving that report before taking action, but the Task force voted unanimously to move forward. The Task force has two more meetings scheduled. Chairman, Lieutenant Governor Tony Venhuizen says the size and location of a new facility will be the focus of those sessions.
