PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) โ The main run of the 2025 South Dakota Legislature wrapped up at the end of business Thursday. As they crossed the finish line, lawmakers were wrestling with many of the same issues they faced when they arrived at the beginning of January. There will be a summer study committee on property tax relief this year, involving a task force. Assistant House Majority Leader Marty Overweg says local governments will have to be part of the solution, and be willing to cut spending.
Senate Minority Leader Liz Larson of Sioux Falls maintains there arenโt enough cuts available to solve ongoing budget problems.
Governor Rhoden signed the only property tax relief bill to survive this yearโs legislative session Thursday morning.
