South Dakota’s only death row inmate makes another appeal, trying to spare his life. Briley Piper was in federal court Friday, appealing the death sentence for his part in the 2000 murder of Chester Poage. Piper has lost all of his appeals in state court. Attorney General Marty Jackley says Piper should remain on death row in the 25-year old case. The Attorney General adds there could be further delays created by appeals if the state prevails on the questions raised in Friday’s hearing.
