SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) โ Officially itโs a vacant lot that doesnโt have any residents. In reality the occupants of the vacant lot next to the Bishop Dudley Shelter draw more police and emergency calls than nearly any other block in the city. The city council is considering an agreement with the Dudley House to build a fence around the block to keep the homeless off the property for safety reasons. Opponents of the plan packed a meeting last night over the concerns of at least one neighbor who says the fence would help.
He spoke of having lived in the neighborhood since 2008, where he has raised three children. He said his youngest daughter was afraid to be left at home alone, even with the door locked. Critics say the fence would be an unwelcome barrier that would only push the problems out into the surrounding neighborhood. The city council is expected to make a decision on the agreement next week.
