PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — Governor Larry Rhoden is in Washington, attending his first National Governor’s Association conference. But, he didn’t leave the state without another round of trying to convince legislators to approve plans to fund and build a new men’s prison in Lincoln County. There’s a move to rename the Department of Corrections as the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. The Governor says the current prison facility doesn’t offer what’s needed for good rehab programs.
If it’s built, the new prison would also cost over 20-million dollars per year to operate than current facilities.
