SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The idea of fencing off part of downtown is on hold in Sioux Falls. The City Council deferred action on a proposal last night to lease a vacant lot near the Bishop Dudley House, and build a fence around it. Police Chief Jon Thum says it’s a troubled area of downtown.
Chief Thum believes adding the fence around the vacant lot near the Dudley House would help, but acknowledges it is only a partial solution.
There was about 45-minutes of testimony last night, most of it opposing the plan out of concerns that it would just move the problems to another neighborhood. City resident Claire Ketcham was among those testifying against the proposal.
The council deferred action, to give the neighborhood an opportunity to meet and discuss other solutions.
