PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Legislature is endorsing a bill that would require the posting of the Ten Commandments in every public school.
The bill would require an 8 by 14 inch poster in “easily readable font” with the Commandments, and a statement explaining its historical significance.
The bill is opposed by a number of public education groups who say the bill is an unconstitutional government endorsement of religion.
They also argue the bill forces an unfunded statewide mandate on school districts.
