SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The Sioux Falls City Council is being encouraged to adopt a one-year childcare assistance program. Officials say the lack of affordable childcare is one of the most pressing workforce development issues. City Councilor Rich Merkouris says employers need workers who have trouble paying for childcare, and childcare providers are having a hard time staying in business.
A consultant hired by the city is recommending a pilot program that would share childcare expenses between the city, businesses and employees. If approved, the pilot program would cost the city 300-thousand dollars.
