JACKSON COUNTY, SD (KELO.com) — When you see amber lights on the highway, you need to slow down and move over – that’s the law in South Dakota. And, following an accident in Jackson County this morning, it’s a law that may need to be strengthened. An SUV slammed into the rear of Sheriff Tucker Amiotte’s patrol vehicle. No one died, but State Transportation Secretary Joel Jundt says more needs to be done to protect emergency responders.
The death of a tow-truck driver prompted the 2022 legislature to pass the current “move-over” law. Tuesday’s crash closed I-90 Eastbound traffic until the crash was cleared.
