WASHINGTON, DC (KELO.com) — Senator John Thune has been on a marathon this year, and now the pace is picking up even more. Observers say President-elect Trump is moving at warp speed in making high-level appointments, many that require Senate confirmation. As the new Majority leader, Senator Thune will lead the confirmation process. He says it’s critical to move quickly, so the President can accomplish the agenda that got him elected.
Even though Senator Thune’s relationship with the President-elect has been troubled in the past, he says they have a good relationship and communicate with each other frequently. Senator Thune was asked about recess appointments for the most challenging cases.
Governor Kristi Noem’s appointment as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security is raising questions for some, but Senator Mike Rounds says he expects her to be confirmed by the Senate.
