PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — Legislators want to support the local preparations for arrival of B-21 Raider Bombers at Ellsworth Air Force Base, they just don’t know what that support will look like. An interim committee working on the situation is having a hard time looking past the legislature’s rejection of an aid package earlier this year. House Majority Leader Will Mortenson says an expected tight budget will make things even more difficult.
The committee unanimously adopted a statement of support this morning, but there was no commitment to actually tie money to the support. Legislative leaders say that part can’t be resolved until we know the outcome of Initiated Measure 28 to repeal the state sales tax on food and consumable items.
