SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Two more former employees of the South Dakota Department of Revenue are facing fraud charges. Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that Lynne Hunsley was indicted by a grand jury on seven charges that could lead to prison time and thousands of dollars in fines. He says Danielle Degenstein was also indicted. She’s accused of failing to report alleged crimes committed by another employee who has since passed away. The Attorney General says these cases, and others he prosecuted in the past are a call to action.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Jackley is working to restore trust in state government – and state employees. Jackley says the alleged actions of the employees involved don’t define the rest of the people working in state government.
The Attorney General says he’s already working with legislators to propose law changes for mandatory reporting of suspicious activities by state employees, whistle-blower protections and stronger auditor protections.
