SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Sioux Falls is a generous city and that’s becoming a problem. Mayor Paul TenHaken addressed that problem Thursday morning, with a simple message to residents.
The Mayor and Police Chief Jon Thum say calls to the downtown area for issues related to panhandling are consuming police resources.
Professional panhandlers have heard about the generous nature of Sioux Falls residents – and so have officials in other cities who send some of their homeless to Sioux Falls.
Mayor TenHaken says the best thing residents can do to help solve the problem is to stop handing out cash to panhandlers.
