DES MOINE, IA (KELO.com) — A major development dealing with a proposed regional carbon capture pipeline. The Iowa Utilities Board announced the approval of Summit Carbon Solutions’ project in Iowa. That follows approval by North Dakota’s Public Service Commission. Lee Blank, Summit’s CEO, says that sets the stage for work in South Dakota.
Summit’s plan is to move carbon dioxide through pipelines from Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota into North Dakota. That announcement puts even more pressure on Carbon Capture pipeline opponents in South Dakota. They submitted petitions yesterday to refer Senate Bill 201 to a vote of the people. That bill makes way for construction of a carbon capture pipeline through the state. Pipeline opponent Jim Eschenbaum says overturning the law in the election will be tough.
Eschenbaum says a strong grassroots effort will be required to overturn the law.
