PIERRE, SD (KELO.com) — Speculation is swirling about the potential of Governor Kristi Noem being part of former President Donald Trump’s ticket for the White House. The Governor met with Mr. Trump on Monday, but is remaining silent about their conversation, other than to say Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden is up to the task if she’s called away.
Her comments came from an interview with Dakota Scout and the South Dakota Broadcasters Association. In that same interview, the Governor said the Federal government is shirking its treaty obligations to provide law enforcement on Indian Reservations. Noem says she’s been reaching out to tribal leaders in the state , offering to help combat violence and drug abuse – especially the Oglala Sioux Tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
The Oglala Tribe has declared a state of emergency because of the lack of law enforcement. Governor Noem says the presence of Mexican Drug Cartels on the reservations is a large part of the problem.
