PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Supreme Court has ordered oral arguments on Monday at the request of Gov. Kristi Noem for an advisory opinion regarding the interpretation of a provision of Article III Section 12 of the South Dakota Constitution.
That provision deals with defining “conflict of interest” pertaining to South Dakota legislators.
The questions began when a Rapid City legislator resigned earlier last year and had to repay over a half-million dollars in COVID relief funds for a business she owns.
Noem also wants clarifications on the question of “can lawmakers or their spouses be employed by school districts or counties”.
