SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Moves over the weekend will keep at least one Sioux Falls childcare center that was slated for closing open. The Apple Tree Childcare Centers announced late last week that it would close its four centers…affecting up to 800 children. Now, former Apple Tree Executive Director Pete Nelson has come to an agreement to take over the center near Roosevelt High School.
Nelson was Apple Tree’s Executive Director for 18 years. Nelson says it appears the current staff will stay onboard through the change. He says providing childcare is critical to the economy.
He owns the Valvoline Oil change centers in Sioux Falls – a business he entered when he left Apple Tree 13 years ago. The 41st Street Center has a capacity of about 170 childcare slots.
