BRIDGEWATER, SD (KELO.com) — Looking back at the growing season, as we go Down on the Farm today. We followed Bridgewater area farmer Jason Hofer through the growing season this year. Hofer and his family have just finished up the harvest. The soybean crop brought a pleasant surprise.
On the corn yields, Hofer says it wasn’t what he hoped for when he was planting last spring.
They say a farmer’s work is never done. That old saying bears out in Hofer’s case. His family finished the harvest this week, and already, they’re working on next year.
South Dakota farmers are wrapping up this year’s corn and soybean harvest. They’re slightly behind last year’s pace, but ahead of the average progress. The Hofers are slightly ahead of the state-wide pace. They just finished harvesting this week.
Like most South Dakota farming operations, this is a family affair. Now that the harvest is done, Hofer is filled with gratitude.
Hofer says they’ll continue to do field work to prepare for next year until the snow begins to fly.
