WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) — A decades old murder case is back in the spotlight.
This week in Washington hundreds of activists and Indigenous leaders held a rally in front of the White House calling for clemency for imprisoned Native American activist Leonard Peltier.
Peltier is serving life in prison for the killing of two FBI agents during a 1975 standoff on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
He was convicted in 1977.
While Peltier’s supporters argue he was wrongly convicted of the killings, the agency has maintained that he is guilty and was properly sentenced to two consecutive life terms.
