SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — A new Teacher Apprenticeship program will help 90 South Dakota teacher’s aides on the path to becoming certified teachers. That includes nine aides in the Sioux Falls district. Sioux Falls has offered an apprenticeship program in the past, but Assistant Superintendent Dr. James Nold says it lacked the funding this program offers for class work.
Nold says one particularly valuable part of the new state program is the way the aides will be able to complete their student teaching requirements while still earning a salary.
Nold sees the teacher apprenticeship program as an important component of overcoming the problem of a shortage of classroom teachers.
