BOONE COUNTY, IA (KELO.com) — A former sheriff’s deputy in Iowa has been charged with the death of a K-9. An Iowa DCI report says 50-year-old Dallas Wingate, formerly of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and handler of K-9 Bear, turned himself in. The investigation showed Wingate had placed Bear inside his vehicle on the evening of September 1st of last year. He didn’t return until nearly 22 hours later and the K-9 was dead. Wingate has been charged with one count of injury or interference of a police dog.
