CANTON, S.D. (KELO.com) — A man is in the Minnehaha County Jail on multiple counts including Simple Assault on Law Enforcement. According to a release from the Canton Police Department, officers responded to call Tuesday (Feb.14) evening regarding a disorderly person. Bystanders told officers the male subject and been physically and verbally combative toward them. When an officer tried speaking to the subject, who had locked himself inside a room, he began screaming profanities at the officer. When the individual did come out of the room, he acted aggressively toward officers and deputies. They attempted to restrain and handcuff him which he resisted. Once he was handcuffed, the subject spit in the faces of and kicked multiple responders. When he arrived at the jail, he also became aggressive with correctional staff. An officer with the Canton Police Department and multiple Lincoln County deputies did require medical attention at a Sioux Falls hospital for bodily fluid exposure and physical injuries. All have been released. The subject was not injured.
