BERESFORD, S.D. (KELO.com) — One person is dead following a three-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon near Beresford. According to the report, a semi-truck and trailer swerved to avoid rear-ending a pickup which was preparing to turn. Both were driving east on South Dakota Highway 46 near the intersection of 473rd Avenue. The semi crossed over and collided head-on with a westbound semi-truck and trailer. The driver of the eastbound semi, a 76-year-old male, was thrown from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene. The 38-year-old driver of the second semi received serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup, a 45-year-old male, was not injured. The second semi (westbound) was hauling ethanol fuel. A hazardous materials team responded to the scene and the highway was closed to traffic for six hours.
