SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — A video was posted online this past week that showed several dead Snow geese along the shore of a pond in South Dakota.
Emmett Keyser with the South Dakota Game Fish & Parks Department provides an explanation into the incident.
Keyser says that the mass migration of birds allows avian influenza to spread rapidly through flocks, mainly impacting younger geese.
Last week, an egg-laying farm in Nebraska had to cull 1.8 million chickens due to the disease.
