DES MOINES, IA (KELO.com) — The State of Iowa has reached an agreement with two opioid drug makers. Teva Pharmaceuticals and Allergan will pay $42.6 million to the state. 470 people died of a drug overdose in Iowa last year. The state’s Attorney General Tom Miller said they held the companies “accountable for deceptively marketing opioids and failing to maintain effective controls to prevent diversion”. The drug makers have agreed to restrict sales and marketing, Allergan is required to stop selling opioids. The settlement provides up to $6.6 billion, nationally.
