DELL RAPIDS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Willow Meadows Farm by Dell Rapids continues to keep KELO.com news updated on the saga of Blue, their emu who was frightened off by fireworks on the 4th of July. This past Saturday, it was the rain that worked against catching the emu. Kim Hubers said they were so close. Her husband hand a hand on the bird but the wet feathers were too slippery.
A report Sunday morning caused worry. Someone thought they may have seen Blue east of Madison, along a foggy highway. That sighting will remain a mystery as Blue was confirmed to be in her usual location south of Dell Rapids. Yesterday, a local farmer tried a little rodeo action attempting to lasso the emu. Blue showed between her good eyesight and hearing, one doesn’t sneak up on an emu easily. She then demonstrated her speed as well.
Kim Hubers says while Blue is in a new location in the same area, the farmers have been awesome to work with. Blue continues to look healthy and is enjoying her expedition, knowing her owners are keeping her fed and the community is keeping a close eye on her. Blue herself may be slightly ’emused’ by the task she has given her owners.
