RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO.com) — With diesel fuel as their economic lifeblood, South Dakota truckers and farmers are being hurt by unusually high per-gallon prices at the pump.
Many truckers and farmers are taking steps to reduce fuel consumption or look for other ways to remain profitable, and some are hoping Congressional action will be taken soon to lower the price of diesel.
Employees and business owners in both industries rely heavily on diesel fuel to do their jobs, and the high prices are pinching their incomes and profits. Industry experts say that higher fuel prices in trucking and farming are often passed on to consumers, who are already paying more for a wide range of goods and foods at a time when inflation is pushing up prices.
In the latest article published by South Dakota News Watch, available here, reporters Kylie Carlson and Stu Whitney reveal how high prices have gone and examine the impacts on South Dakotans working in two key state industries.
