BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO.com) –The city of Brookings is offering property owners the chance to plant trees on their property at little to no cost.
The Brookings Urban Forest Initiative is designed for the long-term sustainability and beauty of the community’s trees.
The program began in 2021, so the City decided to offer it again this year.
The program is only open to residents in the City of Brookings.
There is a maximum of two trees per property per year, and trees planted in the boulevard will need City approval before planting and reimbursement.
There are restrictions on the types of trees you can plant, the entire list can be found here.
Only approved participants can receive the reimbursement amount of up to $125.00 per tree with the submission of a receipt.
