
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, along with the state Attorney General’s office, has declared the officer-involved fatal shooting of 41-year-old Ryan Waldner in March as justified.
Waldner was fatally shot by a South Dakota Highway Patrol marksman on March 19, 2022, after firing 96 shots at officers, as well as a neighboring house, in rural Hanson County.
The Highway Patrol marksman fired a single shot from nearly 200 yards away, striking Waldner.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
