WINTERSET, IA (KELO.com) — A community southwest of Des Moines, Iowa, is once again cleaning up spring storm damage. The rural community of Winterset, Iowa, was hit by an EF-4 tornado on March 5th. Dozens of homes were damaged or destroyed and six lives were lost. Thunderstorms and high wind Saturday (Apr 24) brought reports of numerous trees down as well as power lines. Madison County Emergency Management announced the Winterset Cemetery is closed for cleanup today because of storm damage. The cemetery has several large trees down which damaged headstones.
