SIOUX FALL, S.D. (kelo.com) – The United States Veteran’s Administration is set to make some serious cuts to their medical programs in South Dakota. They plan to turn the full-service VA hospitals in Fort Meade and Hot Springs into clinics; remove emergency services from the Sioux Falls VA hospital; and completely close the clinic in Wagner. The Administration is touting Care in the Community as a solution to cuts they plan to make in South Dakota. Congressman Dusty Johnson has some thoughts about that, and spoke on Wednesday morning’s The Greg Belfrage Show.
The VA provides care to Veterans through community providers when VA cannot provide the care needed. Community care is based on specific eligibility requirements, availability of VA care, and the needs and circumstances of individual Veterans. In order to receive this type of care, a veteran will need to get an authorization from the VA. There is also a list of available community care providers on their website.
