PIERRE, S.D. (KELO.com) — A bill was introduced in this year’s South Dakota legislative session that would have required a forensic audit of any Presidential year election if there was less than a ten percent margin of victory.
The bill was ultimately defeated.
Secretary of State Steve Barnett says he still hears some questions about the 2020 election.
Barnett says there should be high confidence in state elections.
He says there has to be a balance in free elections.
Barnett says county auditors are the backbone of fair and open elections in the state.
