SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — Tuesday morning’s short-lived snow was the first snow in the Sioux Falls area since March 9.
With above freezing temperatures, the already slushy snow didn’t last very long.
With an already dry winter, the National Weather Service predicts no snow for the KELO Radio listening area through at least Monday.
The bigger problem is due, in part, to the lack of snow–wildland fire danger.
The western portion of the KELO Radio listening area is under a Red Flag Warning.
The U.S. Drought Monitor says 80% of South Dakota is in drought conditions.
The NWS says Sioux Falls received 0.6 inches of precipitation in January and February.
The mean is about 1.5 inches of precipitation for the first two months of the year.
