MITCHELL, S.D. (KMIT) — Fiscal analysts from the Legislative Research Council and the Bureau of Finance and Management estimated South Dakota will collect about one hundred million dollars more in state taxes next year.
Gov. Kristi Noem says she is not comfortable with those projections, saying she is “encouraging them to be more realistic on what we could see in our future.”
“If you look at the inflation costs across the country and goods and supplies that are increasing every day for families here in South Dakota, we recognize that our economy is not going to be able to stay as strong as it is right now today,” Noem said.
A bill has been introduced to reduce the state sales tax by a half percent. Noem says she has not yet decided whether to support that proposal.
Legislators are off today for the Presidents Day holiday and will return to Pierre tomorrow.
