SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) — The Centers for Disease Control says South Dakota’s influenza status as of last week was at the lowest level of the “minimal” level.
That is the lowest rating by the CDC.
Meanwhile, the South Department of Health places the flu status as of last week at the “regional” level.
The department says there were 588 new cases of the flu last week.
There were six new hospitalizations and no deaths.
For the season, 10 South Dakotans have died from the flu.

Influenza activity was at “REGIONAL” level in South Dakota during the past week.
- 588 new confirmed* cases of influenza (489 Influenza A; 0 AH1; 96 AH3; 3 B) [Aurora, Beadle, Bennett, Brookings, Brown, Brule, Butte, Charles Mix, Clark, Clay, Codington, Davison, Day, Deuel, Douglas, Edmunds, Fall River, Faulk, Grant, Gregory, Hamlin, Hughes, Hutchinson, Lake, Lawrence, Lincoln, Marshall, McCook, Meade, Miner, Minnehaha, Moody, Pennington, Roberts, Stanley, Tripp, Union, & Yankton Counties] were reported last week. Total of 8,234 confirmed cases so far this season (8,188A & 46B).
- 11.13% positive rapid antigen tests reported statewide (70 positives (65A/5B) [Aurora, Beadle, Codington, Clay, Davison, Dewey, Hyde, Kingsbury, Lawrence, Lincoln, Meade, Minnehaha, Miner, Pennington, Spink & Todd Counties] out of 629 individuals tested last week). Total 18,988 tests performed so far this season.
- 6 new influenza-associated hospitalizations (Douglas, Gregory, Hughes, Miner, Minnehaha, & Pennington Counties) were reported last week. Total of 173 hospitalizations so far this season.
- Zero new influenza-associated deaths were reported last week. Total of 10 deaths so far this season.
